On April 13, 1996, 22-year-old Timwanika Lumpkins was found brutally murdered in an apartment in Dade City, Florida. She was discovered severely beaten in a bedroom and, despite being airlifted to a nearby hospital, died shortly after arrival. The same scene produced Marlin Barnes, a University of Miami linebacker, who was found gravely injured; both victims had suffered multiple blows from a shotgun used as a blunt instrument.
The inquiry initially produced few leads but later focused on Lumpkins’ ex-boyfriend, Labrant Dennis, the father of her young child, who had a documented history of violent behavior and had recently argued with her. Dennis had been seen the night of the killings at the same club as Lumpkins and Barnes; investigators noted a prior heated argument a week earlier that prompted Lumpkins to move out. Dennis was arrested, tried, found guilty, and sentenced to death on February 26, 1999.
Did anyone in the community know Timwanika, her movements in Dade City, or have information about who she spent time with in April 1996?
