Kenneth Stanley Baldwin was a 42-year-old officer with the Okaloosa County Airports Police Department when he was fatally shot on September 11, 1987. He was on duty, patrolling the Okaloosa Air Terminal after the airport had closed for the night at midnight and was alone at the time. A newspaper deliveryman found his body in the roadway in front of the terminal between 1:50 am and 2:33 am; Baldwin had sustained four gunshot wounds to the chest.
Baldwin had served with the airport police for 17 months and was survived by his wife and two children. Despite extensive investigations, the assailant has never been apprehended and the case remains unsolved. The investigation is reportedly still active and the community and colleagues have expressed ongoing frustration and sorrow over the lack of closure.
Did anyone who worked at or visited the Okaloosa Air Terminal around closing time on September 11, 1987, see or hear anything that could help identify the shooter?
