Emily Ellen Grieve, a 38-year-old white woman, was found dead on October 21, 1977, in Wesley Chapel, Pasco County, Florida. Her body was located in a field about 500 yards from where another victim, Wilma Ida Woods, had been found. She died of a gunshot wound to the back of her head. At the time she worked as a motel clerk and had been left with a limp and limited use of one hand after surviving a near-fatal car accident eighteen months earlier.
Emily Grieve is counted among a group of at least sixteen victims linked to a series of unsolved murders in Pasco County and the Tampa Bay area between 1971 and 1978, often called the Gulf Killer or Red Light Murders. Victims in that pattern were frequently found in remote locations and many had ties to sex work or other high-risk lifestyles. Several suspects and theories have circulated, and a few people were arrested and convicted for related crimes, but Grieve’s murder itself remains unsolved.
Did anyone who knew Emily, where she worked, or who frequented the area around Wesley Chapel in 1977 see or hear anything that could help investigators?
