Christopher York, 37, was shot late on the night of December 21, 2022, at a residence on Dogwood Drive in Americus, Georgia. He was taken to Phoebe Sumter Hospital, where he died of his injuries. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to examine the circumstances of the fatal shooting.

The GBI investigation identified two local men in connection with York’s death. Thomas Warren Capps, 40, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses including felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Nickalus Lee Cochran, 25, was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence.
