Carey Alphonso Powers Jr., 35, was found dead in his Savannah apartment on King George Boulevard on the evening of December 16, 2022. An autopsy confirmed he died from a gunshot wound. A graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, Powers had launched his own brand, CA-LA-PO by Carey, and was known in the fashion community for his designs and his infectious laughter.

Authorities quickly identified and arrested 21-year-old Adaunt’e Kimble, who was held at the Chatham County Detention Center on charges including felony murder, felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of aggravated assault, and felony armed robbery. Kimble and Powers were acquainted. Investigators also linked Kimble to other recent violent incidents on Savannah’s south side, including an armed robbery and carjacking allegedly involving a victim met through a dating app, and a separate shooting that left a man with non-life-threatening injuries. It is alleged Kimble targeted homosexual men during this string of crimes.
