Breana Marie Rogers was 33 when she was killed after leaving a Stone Mountain hotel on the evening of October 7, 2022. According to accounts, she was accompanied by Edward Rodley Smith Jr.; after she tried to leave to get away from him she was pursued. Within 30 minutes of leaving the hotel she was shot four times—three times in the back and once in the back of her head—and found beside a wrecked BMW in the driveway of a construction site on Stone Mountain Highway.
Multiple witnesses reported a domestic altercation involving Smith’s BMW; one witness heard Breana shout she was tired of this. Calls to 911 described a crash and a man firing a gun. The vehicle registration tied the wrecked car to Smith, who fled the scene but later turned himself in to the Gwinnett County jail and was charged with aggravated assault and felony murder. At trial Smith said he acted in self-defense, claiming Breana reached for his wallet and had a gun, but the jury rejected that account and convicted him of malice murder; he was sentenced to life without parole in November 2025.
Was anyone in the area that night aware of unusual activity on Stone Mountain Highway or the hotel where Breana and Smith were seen?
