On the morning of September 19, 2022, the body of 23-year-old DeQuan Deion Thorpe of Savannah was found in the backyard of a residence in Glennville, Georgia. Authorities from the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation were called in, and investigators determined Thorpe’s death was the result of gun violence.
A suspect was arrested on October 20, 2022, when 22-year-old Jamie Christopher Ellis was taken into custody in Jasper County, South Carolina, by the U.S. Marshals Service. Ellis was sought in connection with Thorpe’s death and was charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; he was to be extradited to Tattnall County, Georgia to face those charges.
Thorpe’s killing occurred less than two days after the homicide of a relative, James Ancrum, compounding the family’s loss. The investigation into Thorpe’s murder remains ongoing. If anyone knew DeQuan Thorpe or has information relevant to his death, please come forward.
