On the evening of July 26, 2022, gunfire broke out outside the Waverly Pointe Townhouses on Forest Hill Road in Macon, Georgia. Jayden Ellington, a 17‑year‑old Black male, was fatally wounded in the shooting around 7:15 p.m. A 26‑year‑old woman, Roctavia Edwards, was also killed; two other teenagers, 17‑year‑old Devin Washington and 18‑year‑old Christian Edwards, were hospitalized with injuries. Those who knew Jayden described him as a very good kid who would be truly missed.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office investigated the scene and found a bullet hole in a townhouse front door. Deputies entering to check welfare saw marijuana in plain view and later obtained a search warrant. The search recovered a substantial quantity of marijuana, several handguns, rifles, and a large amount of ammunition. A woman identified as 37‑year‑old Shaqwonda Lakisha Russell was arrested at the scene; her boyfriend, 38‑year‑old Kenneth Eugene Williams Jr., was arrested two days later after leaving the complex.
Both were booked into the Bibb County Jail without bond. Investigators charged Williams with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault; Russell was charged with one count of murder as a party to the crime. Both faced additional drug and weapons charges, and in October 2022 a grand jury returned multiple indictments including murder. Anyone who knew Jayden or has information about the shooting is asked to come forward.
