In the afternoon of Thursday, July 21, 2022, police responded to a house on Richard Road in Conley, Georgia, where 34-year-old mother Monique Miles had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead. A second woman, identified as Miles’ girlfriend, was found in another room with severe gunshot wounds and was taken to a local hospital.
Friends said Miles had been visiting her girlfriend, who rented a room in the Conley home. An argument reportedly broke out between the girlfriend and the landlord and escalated to gunfire. Those who knew Miles said she tried to step between her girlfriend and the gunman to de-escalate the situation and was shot. People who remembered her described her as a devoted, charismatic mother who often tried to diffuse tense situations.
Authorities identified 69-year-old Charles Wise as the suspected shooter and charged him with malice murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony; a manhunt was launched. If anyone has information about the shooting or recalls seeing activity at the Richard Road residence that afternoon, please come forward.
