On July 15, 2022, a burst of gunfire on Carlisle Avenue in Macon, Georgia, left 17-year-old Tyreek Demontez Young critically wounded in the roadway. Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies found him and he was taken to Atrium Health, where he was pronounced dead that evening. An 18-year-old who had been with Young was also shot in the lower leg and listed in stable condition.
A subsequent investigation identified two individuals already in custody in connection with a separate stolen-vehicle incident. On September 7, 2022, Bibb County deputies apprehended four males after a foot pursuit linked to a running stolen car left at a Napier Avenue store. Two of those taken into custody were later identified as suspects in Young’s killing.
Arrest warrants for murder were served on the two suspects while they remained in custody. One was a 16-year-old held at the Regional Youth Detention Center; the other was 17-year-old Jaquavious Jamal Scott, who was also charged with multiple other offenses and held at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center without bond. Does anyone have information about Tyreek, the shooting on Carlisle Avenue, or the events leading up to July 15?
