A summer gathering of teenagers in LaGrange, Georgia, ended in tragedy on the night of June 24, 2022. Sixteen-year-old Laquan Dewberry was shot in the upper torso outside Mason’s World on Hogansville Road after a dispute between two groups escalated into gunfire. He was later found at a car wash on Vernon Street, nearly two miles from the restaurant, and was taken to Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center where he died of his injuries.
Two other teens were wounded in the same incident: a 16-year-old male sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and a 17-year-old female suffered non-life-threatening injuries; both were treated and released. In December 2022, authorities arrested 18-year-old Ah'Traveon Van'Quavious Stephens at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport; he was booked into the Troup County Jail and charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with Dewberry’s death.
If anyone has information about what happened that night or knew Laquan, please come forward with tips.
