On the night of June 18, 2022, 18-year-old Savion McRae was killed in a drive-by shooting on U.S. 221 North in Lanier County, Georgia. McRae was a passenger when another vehicle pulled alongside and opened fire; he died at the scene. Two other males in the car, a 17-year-old from Willacoochee and a 20-year-old from Douglas, were wounded but survived.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation led the inquiry and identified three suspects from Douglas. Eighteen-year-old Shamond Jaquavious Campbell surrendered in late June 2022 and was charged with felony murder and aggravated assault. On August 3, 2022, 22-year-old Travion Snell was arrested on the same charges. Twenty-four-year-old Rodarious Rod Swanson was briefly sought as a fugitive before his capture; he also faced felony murder and aggravated assault counts.

By December 2024, two of the suspects had been convicted by a Lanier County jury, and all three were later sentenced to prison for their roles in the ambush that killed Savion McRae. Does anyone have additional details about the events on U.S. 221 that night or about Savion’s life in Douglas?
