On the afternoon of May 19, 2022, 30-year-old Keonta Quintez Rouse was found unresponsive in front of building 30 at River Park Apartments, 720 Tidewater Circle in Macon. Deputies from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office arrived around 1:12 p.m. after reports of multiple gunshots; Rouse had sustained several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting was counted as the 24th homicide in Macon-Bibb County for 2022.

Investigators quickly pursued leads and, on May 26, 2022, acting on a Crimestoppers tip, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 27-year-old Brian Christopher Horton Jr. at an apartment on Merriwood Drive. He was taken into custody without incident, questioned, charged with Rouse’s murder, and held in the Bibb County jail without bond; he also had outstanding warrants in other cases.
