Troy Eric Sandifer, 52, was found dead by the side of the 3000 block of Columbus Road in Macon, Georgia, in the early morning of January 10, 2022. He was discovered at about 4:18 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Friends and family remembered Sandifer as a quiet, humble man who worked in construction and enjoyed music and time with friends.
Investigators worked the case for months and eventually identified a suspect who was already in custody for another shooting. Denzel Cortez Rutledge, 26 at the time, was charged on May 3, 2022, with murder and aggravated assault in connection with Sandifer’s death; warrants were served to him at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center where he was being held. Authorities said the investigation remained ongoing and asked anyone with information to come forward.
Did anyone in Macon know Troy, his routine, or have information that could help clarify what happened that night?
