Fourteen-year-old Kyra Nevaeh Scott was fatally shot on a Saturday afternoon outside her home in Douglasville, Georgia. The shooting occurred during an incident in which Kyra’s 13-year-old brother, Wilson Scott, was selling a homemade firearm. A 19-year-old identified as Yusef Jabryil McArthur, also known as Yusef McArthur El, allegedly decided to steal the weapon instead of paying for it.
As McArthur fled with the gun, Kyra’s younger brother fired another firearm in an attempt to stop him; the bullet struck Kyra. Family members tried to rush her to a nearby hospital but she died at a local gas station en route. Authorities say the 13-year-old had been assembling and selling untraceable ghost guns.
Both Wilson Scott and McArthur were arrested; Wilson was charged with felony murder and was booked as an adult and placed in a youth detention center, while McArthur faced robbery and felony murder charges and was held in the county jail. Both were denied bond after their initial court appearance. Investigators said they were seeking a third person believed to have been involved.
Did anyone in the Douglasville area see or hear anything related to the sale, theft, or escape that afternoon?
