On the evening of November 23, 2021, a shooting on North Gamble Road in Savannah, Georgia left 29-year-old Markese De’Shawn Singleton dead. Singleton, a resident of St. Helena Island, South Carolina, was found inside a vehicle with another man from the Bluffton area; both had sustained gunshot wounds. Emergency crews arrived to the 100 block of the street at about 7 p.m., and the other man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries while Singleton did not survive.

Savannah Police Department Violent Crimes detectives processed the scene and appealed to the public for information as they worked to determine what led to the double shooting. The investigation produced a suspect: on December 8, 2021, 33-year-old Joseph Miller was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Louisiana and charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with Singleton’s death and the wounding of the other man; Miller was held for extradition to Georgia.

If anyone has information about that night or knew Singleton, please come forward with tips for investigators.
