A Fort Valley homecoming block party on the night of October 23, 2021, ended in a spray of gunfire that left one man dead and seven others wounded. The deceased was 27-year-old Tyler French, who was not a student at Fort Valley State University. The shooting happened on Carver Drive at what was described as a fraternity party and prompted a campus lockdown.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation took over the inquiry and has repeatedly asked the public for help. In June 2022 the GBI released a photo of French to encourage leads. University officials canceled homecoming events and offered counseling to students affected by the violence. As of late 2023 the investigation remained active with no arrests announced and no suspects publicly identified.
Does anyone who was at the event or living nearby that night have information that could help the GBI and the Fort Valley Police Department?
