Rajah Devonte Young, 27, was shot and killed on the evening of October 12, 2021, in the parking lot of the Jennifer Ross Soccer Complex in Savannah, Georgia. The shooting occurred while a youth soccer game was underway and witnesses described chaos as attendees scrambled after shots were fired. Young was transported to a nearby hospital but died of his gunshot wounds.
Savannah police detained and later arrested 26-year-old Mario DeShaun Wallace in connection with the killing, and authorities said the two men were acquainted and the shooting was not random. In August 2023, a Chatham County judge dismissed murder and aggravated assault charges against Wallace after hearing a self-defense claim; the defense said Young had brandished a firearm, and testimony by the mother of Wallace’s children was described as inconsistent.
Are there details about Young’s movements that evening or eyewitness accounts that could clarify what happened?
