Carlether Foley, 36, was killed in her Duluth, Georgia apartment on September 25, 2021 when a bullet from a neighboring unit pierced the wall and struck her in the head while she slept. Her 17-year-old son discovered her unresponsive and called for help.
Police say the shot came from a neighboring apartment where 22-year-old Maxwell Williamson had been cleaning his handgun; the discharge was described as accidental. Williamson left a note on Foley’s door apologizing for any damage before the full extent of the event was known. He was later taken into custody and charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct. A jury found him guilty of misdemeanor involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct; the sentence was eight months in jail followed by 16 months probation.
Does anyone in the Duluth area remember hearing a gunshot that night or saw anything unusual involving the neighboring unit around September 25, 2021?
