Diane Bailey Johnson was 61 when she was fatally shot at her home on Spring Valley Way in Covington, Georgia, on Saturday, August 28, 2021. She worked as a school nurse and was remembered by those who knew her for compassionate care.
The case began when someone asked for a welfare check at her residence. Before deputies arrived, Diane’s husband, 70-year-old Albert Johnson, drove to Savannah—about 220 miles away—and surrendered himself at the Chatham County jail, telling deputies a crime had occurred and giving his Covington address. Newton County deputies then entered the home and found Diane deceased.
Authorities identified Albert Johnson as the primary suspect. He was arrested and charged with malice murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and was being held at the Newton County Detention Center without bond. If anyone knew Diane or has information about what happened that night, please come forward.
