In the early morning hours of July 24, 2021, a large fight on a sidewalk at Cherry Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Macon, Georgia, ended with gunfire. Twenty-year-old Donovan Munir Cason and 21-year-old Kabryan Johnson were killed; Cason was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. Two other 20-year-olds — a male and a female — suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, and 21-year-old Fuquan Conner was hospitalized in critical condition.
Authorities identified 22-year-old Jacorey Keshawn Meadows as the suspect and arrested him on August 17, 2021, in an Atlanta apartment complex. He faces two counts of murder and five counts of aggravated assault related to the shooting, plus unrelated warrants that include multiple aggravated assault counts, theft by taking, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of marijuana. He is being held without bond.
As the prosecution prepared for trial in February 2025, the district attorney’s office publicly sought a crucial witness, Joshua Cason, offering a $500 reward for information leading to his location. The Thirsty Turtle, a bar near the scene, surrendered its liquor license and has closed after this and another violent incident. Does anyone have information about Joshua Cason or details about what happened that night?
