Jamichael Kirkland, a 30-year-old Black man from Swainsboro, was killed in the early morning hours of July 3, 2021, after an evening at Bird’s Sports Bar & Lounge on South Main Street turned violent. A 911 call around 2:02 a.m. reported gunfire and multiple people hurt; officers arriving found Kirkland dead at the scene and three others — Jasmin Crawford of Statesboro, Taniya Adams of Swainsboro, and Cordaro Kirkland of Swainsboro — shot and taken first to a local hospital, then transferred to Augusta University Health Medical Center.

Authorities said the shooting followed an altercation in the parking lot and around the business, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist. Dallas Clark of Twin City was arrested shortly after and initially charged with four counts of aggravated assault, malice murder, felony murder, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. In the days after the shooting investigators asked the public for information while Kirkland’s body was sent to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy.
