A summer gathering on Lawson Drive in Eatonton, Georgia, ended in a double homicide on the night of Sunday, June 20, 2021. Police were first called about a large fight at about 7:42 p.m. and left after dispersing the crowd. About an hour later, at approximately 8:56 p.m., gunfire rang out and officers found 19-year-old Roman Felton Roswell and 16-year-old Jeremiah DeSean Walton suffering fatal gunshot wounds.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation took over the inquiry and identified 19-year-old Xavier Rashad Chambers of Milledgeville as the suspected shooter. Investigators believe Chambers began firing into the crowd after police left; authorities have said the shooting may have been gang-related and that Chambers is a known member of the Bloods. Chambers was arrested and booked into the Putnam County Detention Center on two counts of Malice Murder, two counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Possession of a Firearm with Altered Identification. He had been out on bond on a separate murder charge in Baldwin County at the time, a bond set at $150,000 about a month earlier.
If anyone who knew Roman Roswell or Jeremiah Walton was at Lawson Drive that night or has information that could help the investigation, please come forward.
