On the night of April 18, 2021, 27-year-old Greg Lamar Watkins Jr. was shot inside a Chevron convenience store on Emery Highway in Macon, Georgia. He was taken by private vehicle to Coliseum Medical Center but was pronounced dead shortly before 10:00 p.m. No one else was reported injured.
Bibb County Sheriff’s Office investigators, working with the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, identified and arrested two suspects. Christian Desmond Williams, 21, was arrested at the Green Meadows Apartment complex and charged with murder and four counts of aggravated assault. Jaravi Daevon Leathers Sr., 20, was arrested in early May 2021 after investigators said he had been with Williams at the Chevron; he was charged with murder. Both were held without bond.
Hours before a scheduled court appearance, Christian Williams was taken from his front porch in an apparent abduction captured on surveillance video; his family reported he was dragged from his yard by two men. A nationwide lookout and U.S. Marshals involvement followed, but investigators reported no significant breakthroughs, and proceedings against him were stalled. In August 2022 Watkins Jr.’s family filed a wrongful death suit against the store owners, alleging illegal gambling and inadequate security contributed to a dangerous environment.
Did anyone in the area see activity at that Chevron around 10:00 p.m. on April 18, 2021, or have information about the reported abduction from Williams’s home?
