On the evening of April 14, 2021, 23-year-old Pedro Lopez-Belloso was shot dead while riding as a passenger in an SUV on Jimmy Carter Boulevard in Norcross, Georgia. He was struck in the back of the head by a round fired from an AR-15 held by 35-year-old Jorge Alberto Ramirez, who was in the backseat of the same vehicle.

Ramirez initially told investigators the rifle had accidentally fired at his side, but his statements to others and later recordings contradicted that account. While detained he was recorded saying he shot Lopez-Belloso because the immigrant wanted to envy, hate, and be jealous of an American citizen, and made other comments invoking patriotism. A forensic analysis by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation found the rifle could not have fired accidentally and required a human to pull the trigger.

A Gwinnett County jury found Ramirez guilty of felony murder and related charges; he was sentenced to life in prison plus five years for the killing of Pedro Lopez-Belloso. Does anyone have information about Pedro’s life or movements that night that could shed more light on what happened?
