On the evening of March 11, 2021, first responders found 19-year-old Hashim Jabari Haugabook II in a vehicle in the 400 block of Kaigler Street in Oglethorpe, Georgia. The scene was first treated as a single-vehicle crash, but investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation concluded he had been shot before the car left the road. An autopsy determined a single gunshot wound was the cause of death, and the case was handled as a homicide.
Authorities arrested 19-year-old Zaccheus Charnard Kendrick of Montezuma on March 15, 2021; he faced murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault charges. A total of five people were arrested over the course of the investigation, though only Kendrick and a co-defendant, Makevion Bonner, were tried on murder charges. In June 2022 a jury convicted Kendrick of malice murder, felony murder, armed robbery, and aggravated assault and sentenced him to life in prison; Bonner was acquitted on all counts.
If anyone knew Hashim, saw him that night, or has information about what led to the shooting, please share what is known.
