On the evening of February 22, 2021, emergency crews in Hartwell, Georgia, responded to a 911 call from a Palm Circle residence and found 39-year-old Jermaine Edward Maxwell unresponsive with a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.
