Michael Jamal Colquitt, a 31-year-old Black man, was shot and killed in McDonough, Georgia, on January 22, 2021. The confrontation reportedly began over a $600 debt tied to a minor car accident days earlier. Colquitt agreed to meet the other party near the LA Fitness on Foster Drive; investigators say the meeting turned violent when the other man pulled a gun and opened fire.

Colquitt and another unarmed man ran toward a nearby QuikTrip on Jonesboro Road seeking safety, but the shooting continued and Colquitt was struck multiple times. Officers were dispatched to the QuikTrip at about 11:15 to 11:18 p.m., and Colquitt was found fatally injured at the scene or suffering gunshot wounds before dying shortly afterward. Henry County police identified Quintarus James Jackson as a person of interest, and he was located after investigators asked for the public’s help; he was arrested and booked into the Henry County Jail the next day on charges that included murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and traffic offenses.

At the time of the arrest, investigators said they were still determining exactly what sparked the fatal confrontation. Does anyone have information about the meeting near Foster Drive or the events at the QuikTrip that night?
