Calvin Jamar Marshall was 20 when he was shot and killed in Savannah, Georgia, on the evening of Saturday, December 12, 2020. The shooting occurred in East Savannah near the intersection of Gwinnett and Paulson streets; Marshall was taken to a nearby hospital and later died of his injuries.
Savannah Police Department homicide detectives identified and arrested a suspect within hours. Demonte Phillips, also referred to in court papers as Damonte Emanuel Phillips, was charged with Marshall’s murder. Authorities described the shooting as the culmination of an ongoing dispute between the two men rather than a random act; the specific nature of that dispute has not been publicly disclosed.
Court records show case number SPCR21-01939-J4 moved through the Chatham County system and had an Open Ended Plea hearing scheduled for September 6, 2023. Does anyone have information about Calvin’s life in Savannah or details that could shed light on what led to this killing?
