In late November 2020 a 26-year-old man named Derek Davis was shot in LaGrange, Georgia, in what police described as an ambush-style attack. He was found in critical condition on a Sunday and died a few days later, at which point investigators upgraded the case to a homicide.

The LaGrange Police Department identified a primary suspect and a murder warrant was issued for Carlos Heard Jr. Law enforcement’s focus at the time was on locating and arresting Heard to face the charges.

Derek Davis’s family was left to mourn a young life cut short; anyone with information about the shooting or Heard’s whereabouts is asked to come forward.
