Kareem Smalls, 36, known to some as Free Lunch Baby, was shot on the evening of November 23, 2020, in Savannah, Georgia. Police found him with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle at Gwinnett Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard; he was taken to a hospital and later died. Investigators determined the shots were fired earlier in the 600 block of Draper Street rather than at the crash scene.

The homicide investigation was worked first by the Homicide Unit and later by the Major Crimes Unit. Ballistics testing linked shell casings from Smalls’s shooting to an earlier incident in which a woman and her young daughter were shot at. Evidence cited by investigators included GPS data from a rental car and witness reports of a red Dodge Charger circling the area before the shooting.

In November 2021 authorities arrested 24-year-old Dyanta Derall Samuels and charged him with murder; he was already in custody on unrelated drug charges. Samuels denied firing the shots but admitted being in the area. He was convicted at trial on multiple counts, including Malice Murder and Aggravated Assault, and sentenced to life with parole eligibility; the Georgia Supreme Court later affirmed the conviction in February 2026.

Did anyone in the Savannah area know Smalls, the red Dodge Charger, or have information about Draper Street that could help fill gaps in the timeline?
