Juanita McFadden, 27, was shot to death in the early morning hours of November 18, 2020, at the Alder Park Apartments in Smyrna, Georgia. She had been visiting the apartment of Carl Anthony Crawford, a longtime friend she had known since middle school. According to reports, a verbal dispute escalated into a physical struggle after Crawford tried to force McFadden out; Crawford then produced a 9mm handgun and fired at her at least nine times, striking her in the arms, legs, and torso.

Smyrna officers found McFadden deceased in the apartment entryway just before 1 a.m. Crawford called 911, admitted to the shooting, and was arrested at the scene. The case resulted in convictions for malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, with a life sentence imposed on March 28, 2022.
