Caleb Walker Thompson was an 18-year-old electrician apprentice from Sylvester, Georgia, and a recent Tift County High School graduate. Known for playing football and basketball and for his involvement at Praise Temple Church of God in Sumner, Caleb was described by family as a beautiful soul who could brighten any room.

On the morning of September 3, 2020, Caleb drove to work in Albany and was part of a crew doing subcontract electrical work on the campus of Dougherty Comprehensive High School. Shortly after parking, he was found inside his vehicle, having been fatally shot. Authorities later characterized the shooting as a random crime — Caleb simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Dougherty County School System Police Department pursued a homicide probe. A separate incident that same day involved 24-year-old Telvin Williams, who died by suicide after a standoff with police at an unrelated apartment. In February 2021 a forensic match linked shell casings from Caleb’s killing to those at the Williams scene, and the District Attorney announced the case would be closed with Williams identified as the person who had used the firearm that killed Caleb.

If anyone knew Caleb, worked with him, or has information about his last day, please share what you can with investigators.
