On the late afternoon of July 29, 2020, a dispute in the parking lot of a Little Caesars on Pio Nono Avenue in Macon, Georgia, escalated into a fatal shooting. Twenty-nine-year-old Kenneth Bernard Campbell was involved in a fight with several people, drove away down Montpelier Avenue, then later returned and was shot while driving. After being shot he lost control of his vehicle, which struck a water main next to the Little Caesars and came to a stop. Deputies found Campbell unresponsive, performed CPR until paramedics arrived, and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital that evening.
The investigation identified two suspects. On July 31, 2020, 20-year-old Jaqualin Fryer turned himself in after notification of a warrant and was charged with murder. On August 11, 2020, the U.S. Marshals Southeast Fugitive Task Force arrested 26-year-old Trevarus Demonte Kendrick at a Swan Drive residence; he was also charged with murder. Both men were held at the Bibb County Jail without bond. Family and friends held a balloon release in Campbell’s memory and called for an end to community violence.
If anyone witnessed the July 29 incident in the Little Caesars parking lot or has information about what happened, please share what is known.
