On May 24, 2020, 70-year-old Richard St. John was shot while sitting with family in the front yard of his Norcross, Georgia, home. A lone gunman approached and opened fire; St. John was struck and later died at a local hospital. His granddaughter recalled his last words as expressing a wish to be with his late wife.
Investigators identified Jose Aldo Sanchez-Vazquez as the suspect and developed a possible gang-related motive, though the family said they only knew of a recent graffiti issue on the property. Arrest warrants charged Sanchez-Vazquez with felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office arrested him in August 2020.
What information might help explain why this attack happened that evening?
