Vanita Nicole Richardson, 18, of Rome, Georgia, was found dead on the morning of May 13, 2020, alongside 31-year-old Truvenia Clarece Campbell. Both women were discovered on the banks of the Etowah River beneath an overpass with bags over their heads. An autopsy confirmed both deaths were homicides. Vanita had been last seen the evening before in her 1997 gold Toyota Corolla and was remembered by her school district as a fun-loving, motivated student with strong plans for her future.

Investigators say the killings grew out of an accusation that the women had stolen a wallet after attending a birthday party hosted by Desmond Lavonta Brown, 28. Authorities report Brown and two other men, Devin Lashawn Watts, 36, and Christopher Leedarius Pullen, 23, lured the women into a vehicle, confronted them during a drive back to Rome from Alabama, and, at gunpoint, searched them. Campbell reportedly resisted and was shot, then Richardson was shot; their bodies were later dumped from the bridge. Brown’s wallet was later found at his home behind a television, and Vanita’s Corolla was recovered burned and abandoned in South Fulton.

Multiple agencies arrested Brown, Watts, and Pullen on charges including murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence. Does anyone have information about Vanita’s last evening or about the 1997 gold Corolla before it was recovered?
