On the evening of April 6, 2020, Natasha Smith, a 36-year-old African American woman, was found dead in the backyard of her home on Northbrook Road in Snellville, Georgia. She had sustained at least one gunshot wound. Her boyfriend, Antoine McFarlane, made the initial call to emergency services, reporting that he had come home to find her unresponsive.

Gwinnett County detectives initially had no clear suspects or motive and canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses. Within a couple of days the investigation began to concentrate on the 911 caller. After witness interviews and evidence collection, police arrested 35-year-old Antoine McFarlane and charged him with felony murder and aggravated assault. Authorities described the apparent motive as domestic-related. McFarlane was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail and held without bond.

If anyone knew Natasha, the couple’s history, or saw anything in the Northbrook Road area on April 6, 2020, contact Gwinnett County investigators with what was observed.
