On the evening of March 28, 2020, 33-year-old Michael Stanley was shot in the Nelson Heights neighborhood of Covington, Georgia, near Puckett Street and Chaney Drive. Residents reported hearing gunfire around 7:30 p.m. Shell casings from two different caliber weapons were found on the street, and investigators concluded at least two firearms had been discharged. Stanley, who was unarmed, suffered multiple gunshot wounds. A private vehicle carrying him flagged down an ambulance; he was taken to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
