Chance Jammal Kelley, 19, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds under the Madison Street bridge in Thomasville, Georgia, in the pre-dawn hours of January 9, 2020. A United States Marine, he had been home to attend the funeral of his great-grandmother when the killing occurred. Police were alerted to gunshots around 4:45 a.m.; witnesses reported seeing a body on Madison Alley and officers and GBI detectives began their homicide investigation at about 5 a.m.
Investigators later learned Kelley’s 2014 Honda Civic had been stolen; officers recovered the vehicle that afternoon on Georgia Avenue. The police appealed to the public for information and described the case as an isolated incident, saying resources were being devoted to finding those responsible. No arrests or suspects have been publicly named in the ongoing investigation.
