Osiel Montano was 19 when his body was found on December 30, 2019, inside an abandoned apartment at the Spring Lake Apartment complex on Chase Common Drive in Norcross, Georgia. Investigators determined he died from a single gunshot wound to the head, and the Norcross Police Department asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to assist.

After more than a year of inquiry, authorities announced a suspect in March 2021: 16-year-old Leslie Garcia-Juarez of Norcross was charged with felony murder and aggravated assault in connection with Montano’s death. At the time those charges were filed, Garcia-Juarez was in juvenile custody on separate charges stemming from a December 2020 killing and was being held at the Regional Youth Detention Center in Gainesville. In both Montano’s case and a later Duluth killing of 22-year-old Adaph Aimable, prosecutors charged Garcia-Juarez as an adult.

The investigation involved multiple agencies including Norcross Police, Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office, Gwinnett County Police, the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice and Gwinnett County Juvenile Court Probation. Does anyone in the Norcross area have information about Montano’s last known movements or who might have seen him at the Spring Lake complex in late December 2019?
