A dispute at an apartment complex in Thomasville, Georgia, ended with the death of 38-year-old Bryan Johnson. The shooting happened shortly after midnight on Monday, December 23, 2019, at the Villa North Apartments on Old Albany Road. Johnson, an Albany resident, was visiting the complex where the man later accused of his murder lived; he was taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital and died of gunshot wounds.
Investigators from the Thomasville Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation focused on 29-year-old Dontavious Williams, a resident of the apartment complex. Officers attempting to question Williams in the hours after the shooting said he tried to flee; a physical struggle led to his arrest on felony obstruction and the discovery of an outstanding warrant for pointing a gun at another person. In early March 2020, while Williams remained in custody on the obstruction charge, he was formally charged with Johnson’s murder. Authorities did not release a motive, how many times Johnson was shot, or whether the firearm was recovered.
If anyone witnessed the December 23, 2019 altercation at Villa North Apartments or has information about what led to the shooting, please share what is known.
