In the pre-dawn hours of December 22, 2019, a burst of gunfire at West 37th and Whitaker streets in Savannah, Georgia, left three people wounded. Officers arriving about 2:15 a.m. found 25-year-old Tori Jerrod Sterling with life-threatening injuries; two others, Georgesta Bostick, 26, and Anthony Mitchell, 33, suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. All were taken to a local hospital, and Sterling later died of his injuries.
The Savannah Police Department identified several suspects during the investigation. In late January 2020, Alajuakee Chamell Solomon was arrested and charged with murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and a probation violation. In February 2020, Atravien Richardson, 30, was served with a murder warrant while already in custody on an unrelated matter and also faced a trafficking heroin warrant. Two other men, Kevin Hamilton and Kenneth Scott, were later charged in connection with Sterling’s death.
The case proceeded through Chatham County courts and went to trial. Three defendants were acquitted of malice and felony murder; another accepted a plea to lesser charges. What details about that night might help explain who fired the shots?
