Deontae Rachell, 37, was shot during a neighborhood dispute on the evening of October 23, 2019, on a street south of downtown Macon. Emergency crews found him at the corner of Pebble and Shaw Streets and took him to a local medical center. He died three days later, on October 26, 2019; his death was ruled a homicide.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office identified a suspect soon after the shooting. Teondrious Deon Johnson, 36, was arrested and initially charged with aggravated assault; authorities said they expected to file additional charges following Rachell’s death. The investigation remained active as law enforcement worked to piece together the events of that evening.
