Kawoski Antonio Newberry was 20 when he was found dead in Albany, Georgia, on the morning of August 14, 2019. A call to the Albany Police Department at 8:02 a.m. reported a man discovered face down in a backyard in the 600 block of Cherry Avenue. Newberry had suffered a fatal gunshot wound and his death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators treated the shooting as connected to a recent string of shootings in the area and pursued leads that law enforcement described as gang-related. The probe resulted in multiple arrests; among those charged was 19-year-old Janareus Raquez Shannon, who faced a felony murder charge. Shannon was the fourth person arrested in connection with Newberry’s death and the cases against the accused were still moving through the legal process.
If anyone knew Kawoski, witnessed activity in the 600 block of Cherry Avenue that morning, or has information related to this case, please come forward.
