Jakari Malique Reddish was 24 when he was shot and killed in Jesup, Georgia. Known to family as Duggy, he was a father remembered for his smile and the love he showed his mother and children. The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of August 13, 2019, at a residence on North Fourth Street; Reddish was shot multiple times and later died at Memorial Hospital in Savannah.

Two days earlier, on August 11, 2019, a burglary was reported in Wayne County. Investigators later concluded the fatal shooting was retaliatory, and Reddish and his family had received threats beforehand. Multiple people were arrested on a range of charges tied to the burglary, threats, and weapons offenses, and authorities issued a warrant for another individual.

In April 2022 three men pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon under a plea deal that left murder charges unprosecuted; sentencing terms were handed down as part of that agreement.
