A confrontation at a home on Georgia Highway 53 in Braselton ended in homicide when 52-year-old William Halbman was shot during an argument on July 26, 2019. The shooter, 62-year-old Allen Bredig, called 911 shortly before 5 p.m. and admitted to having shot Halbman after Halbman came to his residence. Halbman was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and pronounced dead.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bredig at the scene and booked him into the county jail. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation assisted with the crime-scene processing. In September 2019 a Jackson County grand jury indicted Allen Heinz Bredig on charges including murder and felony murder, and reports indicate he remained in jail without bond after the indictment.
