In the early hours of May 19, 2019, 33-year-old Dorian Brooks of Savannah, Georgia, was found dead of gunshot wounds near the intersection of Interstate 16 and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard following a report of an injured person. Brooks, born February 23, 1986, had ties to Hardeeville, South Carolina, and was remembered as a father who organized back-to-school fundraisers and fed the homeless and who was passionate about creating music.

Investigators linked the shooting to an earlier altercation at the Island Breeze nightclub where Charles Doles, a 25-year-old rapper known as Baby Soulja, had been performing. Doles released a video saying Brooks had harassed him at the club and followed him after he left. Authorities identified two principal suspects: Charles Doles and 48-year-old Adrian Dove. Dove was arrested in Ithaca, New York, on September 3, 2019, and Doles was taken into custody by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office on September 18, 2019; both were later extradited to Chatham County.

A Chatham County grand jury indicted Doles on malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Dove and others were indicted on charges related to hindering apprehension or punishment; an additional person was indicted for allegedly assisting Doles in evading law enforcement and providing false information. Are there witnesses who were at Island Breeze that night or anyone with information about Brooks’s movements after he left the club?
