On the evening of January 24, 2019, Rockmart, Georgia, was rocked by shootings at two nearby residences that left four people dead. At a home on Rome Street, 26-year-old Dadrain Quimmin Cummings and 24-year-old Arkeyla Perry were found fatally shot. A short distance away on Williamson Street, 48-year-old Helen Rose Mitchell and 19-year-old Jaequnn Davis were also found dead, and 24-year-old Peerless Brown survived a gunshot wound to the face.

Authorities identified 27-year-old Daylon Delon Gamble as the suspected gunman and launched a multiagency manhunt after reports he had fled the state. He was arrested in Indianapolis, Indiana, and extradited back to Georgia to face charges including four counts of murder. Investigators described the attacks as targeted; Gamble was reportedly best friends with Dadrain Cummings, and the surviving victim Peerless Brown said Gamble was his cousin. The Polk County District Attorney’s Office announced it would seek the death penalty. As of summer 2025, the case had not gone to trial amid delays tied to the complexities of a capital case, issues with the state’s Capital Defender Office, and pandemic-related disruptions.
