Davon Triplett was 23 and a Forest Park resident when he was shot on the morning of Wednesday, October 10, 2018. He was at the A&H Apartment complex on Hill Street, reportedly visiting with friends, when a gunshot was heard. Fire and police arrived around 10:20 a.m. and found Triplett with a gunshot wound to his head. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital but died of his injuries; his mother, Yolanda Triplett, reached the hospital moments before he passed.

Forest Park police identified 24-year-old Chinequah Hawkins, also of Forest Park, as the person responsible for the fatal shot. Investigators were told Hawkins had been playing with the firearm when it discharged; authorities classified the shooting as accidental and charged Hawkins with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct. She was booked into the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office and the investigation was reported to be ongoing. The family also had to address funeral arrangements amid problems with a life insurance policy.
