On August 28, 2018, Marc Dimos, 51, was found dead in the basement of a million-dollar home in the Reynolds at Lake Oconee community in Greensboro, Georgia. Emergency dispatch was initially told there had been a home invasion and that the homeowner had shot an intruder. Deputies who entered the house discovered Dimos had been shot and also suffered severe blunt-force injuries, and they found no evidence of a break-in. Investigators established that Dimos and the homeowner, 45-year-old Chad Haufler, were friends who had been drinking together that night.
Prosecutors say evidence showed a fight in the basement left Dimos badly injured, after which Haufler went upstairs, retrieved a .40-caliber handgun, returned and shot Dimos. The state highlighted bloodstain patterns and the gunshot angle in its case; the defense argued Haufler acted in self-defense. In June 2021 a Greene County jury found Haufler guilty of malice murder and felony murder; he was sentenced to life with parole possible, plus five years.
Did anyone in the Reynolds community know Marc or recall seeing him that night?
